Unplug the hair dryer first!!! Cut the male outlet off. (If you cut it about halfway, you can use the plug for another project) Open up the dryer by removing the three screws and find the motor. Motors are very simple containing only positive and negative posts. Cut off the wire attached to the posts. Solder the wires to the posts like the picture

UPDATE: The rubber coupler for the hair dryer was a little too close to the forge and got very hot so I replaced it with a 6" long piece of 2" pipe and shoved a smaller hair dryer into the end of it as you can see from the last picture. It stayed much cooler that way

2015-5-11 · You need very little CFM for a forge, what you need however is a consistant air pressure. Squirrel cage blowers and the like are not good at operating with a pressure diferential between the input and the output. A type of electric blower that does work well for pressure however is a plain old hair dryer

2017-5-19 · I was thinking about purchasing the 3" coal forge blower from Blacksmith Depot instead because it has an actual pressure rating for it (780 pascals, 79.54 mmAq, 180 CFM) vs 50 CFM (only info I can get from the fan I have now) Am I better off with a cheap hair dryer, vacuum cleaner, or shop vac vs the ventilation fan?

But it works perfect, I forge on the low setting. If I put it on high then it starts to blow the smaller hot coals out of the bowl which isn't good
